The Cabin Music Studio was born out of a project studio in the early 1990's.
With 30 years of Recording and Audio engineering experience between them, our engineers have transitioned through analog to digital technology.
Believing that flexibility is the key to gaining total control over the audio spectrum while keeping true to
their craft.
F.A.Q's
What's is the recording process?
We broke the recording process down into four parts:
1. Tracking live vs. individual:
In live recording, the band sets up and plays together as one unit. This can provide a "live" quality to the recording. Our goal at this point would be to get the basic drum tracks down. So don't FRET, all other instruments at this point can be considered "scratch tracks," any mistakes can be repaired.
Individual recording can give you a solid, polished, studio recorded sound. This is where every player records separately to a pre-programmed click track, giving the band incredible isolation between instruments for a clean crisp recording in perfect time.
2. Overdubs:
This is where all the instruments that were not recorded up to par are replaced and where vocals, backing vocal harmonies, guitar solo's, synth pads, and miscellaneous percussion are recorded.
3. Mixing:
When all the tracks have been recorded they need to be mixed together.
Essentially, it's a sonic jig-saw puzzle that needs to be put together by blending individual tracks.
Adjusting each instruments volume, panning, dynamics, effects and eq is where the bulk of the time is spent. We can't stress enough how important this is. We've had clients come in track all day and want their songs to be radio ready in 15 minutes.
Please consider mixing when your budgeting time
4.Mastering
completing the process.....
Mastering takes your 2 track mix down and polishes it to a final product by adjusting the overall volume, over-all dynamics and eq. At the C.M.S we have great success with our five band dynamic compressor. Check out the audio examples on the client's page to hear our final product.
We do not do not have the proper equipment for what we would consider "proper" mastering however, we come close.
If you have a big budget, we recomend seeking out a specialized mastering studio for this step.
Why use a click track?
Lets face it, not every one is Neal Peart and if your serous about getting your music to the right people, you don't want to present a recording with a "floating" beat.
How long will it take?
We don't know, it depends on how well rehearsed you are. We have had clients do demo's in as little as four hours and others do full length albums in weeks or months.
Ultimately C.M.S tries to work with everyones time and budget, your not going to record
Dark Side of the Moon in one session.
Do you charge for setting up?
No, we don't punch the clock until we hit the red candy-like button.
Does your rate include an engineer?
Yes, On larger projects we have an assistant engineer as well. No extra charge
Are there any additional cost?
Yes, additional costs include your recording media, i.e. Tape, Cd's, Drives ect.
Can we set up the night before?
Yes, there is no cost for this perk.
This way we can get everything mic'ed up and line levels set so all you have to do is get a good
nights rest, come in fresh and play your heart out.
Do you record voice overs for radio, film or translations?
Yes, we have a large, custom built sound booth that can accommodate any project and provide backing music if needed.
Please call if you have any other questions.
